Is peace merely the cessation of hostility, or is there a deeper, richer meaning that is at the heart of God's design for life?

The word of the week is house, but will we ever get to it after a stimulating discussion on how difficult it is to capture God in mere words?

Word world continues as we look at 'god.'  Is it a proper name?  A common noun?  How has it been used histoically, and how has the world been changed by it's use?

Language can be ambiguous.  This week, Fr. Matt looks at some of the similarities and differences in how 'creation,' and 'nature,' our used to better evaluate our understanding of what the Bible has to say about design, and purpose. 

After a brief interlude, looking at why comparing different historical texts such as the Septuagint, the Latin Vulgate, and others is helpful when looking at words, we look at the word, 'Creation.' 

Father Matt begins a series this week delving into 12 words that have changed the way we look at God and the world.  In this first week, we explore the word Spirit and how that has been thought about in different eras of Christian and pre-Christ Jewish tradition. 

As our summer series comes to a close, Father David reviews some of what we have learned and shares some final thoughts.

Father Matt takes us through the beginnings of Siddhārtha's quest for an answer to the problem of suffering.  He also begins to explore the eightfold path, Siddhārtha's proposal for a solution.

As we look at world religions this summer, Father Matt explores our approach to thinking about religion in general.  Can we approach religion as consumers, looking for the religion that is, 'right for us?'  Is there an objective vantage point that we can evaluate religious options in a completely unbiased manner?  Is that even necessary or possible? 

Father David and Trey Yarbrough give a report on the discussions and decisions of the 2012 convention and how Christ Church will operate as we move forward as a local body, and as part of the Episcopal church in America and as a part of the worldwide Anglican communion.  

As we finish this introductory series on Islam, Deacon Stine goes over the remaining pillars of the faith and helps us understand how we as Christians can begin to interact constructively in our interactions with members of this faith. 

Deacon Stine, in this session, begins taking us through the five pillars of Islam. 

This week, Deacon Stine takes us through history from the beginnings of Islam, through the development of various sects, and into more recent times. 

Deacon Stine gives an overview of the historical origins of Islam and touches on the beginnings of some of the various modern sects. 

In week 3 of our series on Judaism, Fr. David explores the development and distinctives of the different traditions, both modern and ancient of the Jewish faith. 

In this class Fr. David introduced Judaism, beginning with the story of the Old Covenant Scriptures, and moving up through the Destruction of the Temple in 70 AD and beyond.

 Background to the Covenant. What are the issues? How did we get to this place? What is the Covenant trying to do?

In this class we looked at an additional "moment" in the Eucharistic Prayer: "anamnesis."

In this class we looked at two "moments" of the Eucharistic Prayer: "institution" and "oblation."

Today we continued to look at Scottish influence on the American prayer book.

In this class we began to look at Prayer Book revision, beginning with Cranmer's 1549 Book of Common Prayer. In particular we discussed how the Scottish Church influenced our American Prayer Book Tradition.

Many great questions in this session, asked by parishioners, with lots of great discussion.

The discussion was launched by a consideration of form and content in our worship adn church life.

We further discussed lex orandi lex credendi, also taking questions including, "If we were to all start worshipping in a mosque, would we then cease to believe in the Trinity?"
